The Community Services department supports City Council and the Art & Community Services Commission with their efforts to enhance recreation programs, community events, and provide opportunities for public art displays and installations. Situated adjacent to the La Quinta Library and City Hall, the Wellness Center is a key community facility providing recreation, fitness opportunities, senior services, social engagement, and a wide range of programs. The Administrative Technician position provides administrative support for essential City programs and operations, requires knowledge of City functions, and performs a variety of routine and specialized administrative tasks that support both internal and external customers and processes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years' experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties. Licensing/Certifications CPR/First Aid Certification within ninety (90) days of employment. Valid Class "C" California driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Administrative support methods and principles. Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Applicable programs or services. Basic accounting processes. Basic contract administration monitoring. Basic procurement principles and practices. City policies, rules and regulations, operations, procedures, and precedents of assignment. Customer service principles. Data entry techniques and use of automated information systems. Documentation and record keeping principles. File management and storage techniques and practices. Modern office procedures and equipment. Report preparation techniques.
SKILL IN: Applying sound judgment when handling confidential and sensitive information. Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Comprehending and correctly interpreting a variety of informational documents. Maintaining accurate records. Maintaining effective working relationships with peers, public, and staff. Operating a computer and relevant software applications. Operating modern office equipment. Performing basic math and accounting computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Preparing written reports and documents of basic to moderate complexity. Providing customer service. Researching and procuring supplies and equipment. Using databases for records management and information storage and retrieval.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbents are required to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Incumbents will work in indoor and outdoor recreational environments and experience exposure to heat, cold, noise, wind, dust, and other extreme weather conditions. Incumbents in Community Services typically require standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, and talking. Requires walking or standing for long periods. Medium Physical Demands: Exerting up to 20 to 50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
