What You'll Do:
Responsible for the day-to-day crewing and personnel administration of assigned vessels, including crew planning, qualification verification, travel coordination, mariner communication, and accurate maintenance of personnel records. The role supports safe, timely, compliant, and cost-effective vessel operations by executing established crewing processes and escalating risks or exceptions requiring additional review.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage routine crewing activities for assigned vessels in accordance with company procedures, collective bargaining agreements, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Verify that mariner credentials, medical documentation, training, drug-testing requirements, and other position qualifications are valid and current before assignment.
- Develop and maintain crew rotation plans based on vessel schedules, mariner availability, qualifications, training needs, and operational requirements.
- Coordinate cost-effective travel for joining and departing mariners and communicate assignment details to mariners, vessel leadership, unions, and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain complete and accurate personnel, assignment, travel, and qualification records in applicable systems; identify discrepancies, expirations, or missing documentation and take timely corrective action.
- Support mariner development by identifying training needs and communicating upcoming qualification or readiness- requirements.
- Interact with union hiring halls and assist with dispatch, payroll, grievance, unemployment, audit, and reporting activities as assigned.
- Participate in departmental training, process standardization, data-quality reviews, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- After demonstrating proficiency, provide limited backup support for other vessel assignments during vacations, short-term absences, or periods of increased operational demand.
Qualifications
Education & Credentials:
High School diploma or equivalent with 0-1 years of experience in marine crewing operations or Associate/Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
0-1 years of experience in marine crewing operations or equivalent.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word in addition to programs such as Filenet, NS5, Anderson-Kelly web portal, SIU, AMO and USCG web portals.
Other:
- Must be available/on call after hours for emergency crew requests.
- Ability to travel as necessary.
Competencies: Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills. Ability to apply skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
