Job Title: Admissions and Disposition Clerk
Location: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, MD
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week
Hours: Rotating weekly schedule, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
### Position Summary
The Admissions and Disposition Clerk provides administrative and patient support services within a military healthcare environment. This position is responsible for patient admissions, eligibility verification, patient movement tracking, coordination of transfers, casualty reporting, and maintaining accurate medical records while delivering exceptional customer service.
### Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent
Experience
- Minimum of 12 months of experience working in an office setting
### Required Skills
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
- Typing proficiency of at least 50 words per minute
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Professional telephone etiquette
- Attention to detail and concentration skills
- Knowledge of general medical ethics
- Ability to work effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff
### Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Answer and screen telephone calls and assist walk-in patients.
- Respond to routine medical, administrative, and personnel inquiries.
- Escort patients as necessary.
- Provide advance directives, third-party liability forms, and other required documentation for inclusion in inpatient medical records.
- Create pre-admission charts and enter information into electronic healthcare systems, including CHCS and Essentris.
- Notify appropriate command personnel regarding active-duty inpatient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Maintain and report required patient admission and disposition statistics.
- Coordinate with civilian and military healthcare facilities regarding active-duty admissions.
- Support casualty notification and coordination activities for seriously ill or injured service members.
- Verify patient eligibility through the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).
- Track daily patient movement, bed availability, and ward transfers.
- Assist with coordinating patient transfers within and outside the medical treatment facility.
- Process Secretarial Designee Program applications and verify eligibility requirements.
- Coordinate Secretarial Designee requests through appropriate hospital leadership for approval.
- Track and report casualty notifications in accordance with government policies and procedures.
- Assist healthcare providers with preparation of death certificates in accordance with state regulations.
- Coordinate autopsy documentation and communication with appropriate offices.
- Coordinate with laboratory and mortuary personnel regarding disposition of deceased remains.
- Prepare and process documentation for transportation of deceased individuals.
- Receive and process notifications involving service members who die, sustain illness, injury, or disease while absent from duty or due to misconduct.

This position is located within a military medical treatment facility and requires interaction with patients, military personnel, healthcare providers, and administrative staff while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
