Position Summary: The Admissions Counselor for the Undergraduate Admissions office is responsible for providing student recruitment to prospective students and applicants within designated geographic regions. This posting is intended to create a pool of qualified candidates for future Admissions Counselor openings. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis as positions become available within the department. This position reports to the Director of Recruitment for Undergraduate Admissions.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of student recruiting strategies.
  • Makes local and extended recruitment visits to high schools, community colleges, college fairs, churches, denominational camps, conferences and conventions.
  • Individually contacts, by phone and letter--prospective students, applicants and references.
  • Works within a geographically territory and processes approximately 350 applications for admission each year.
  • Develops and maintains relations with churches and high schools.
  • Makes presentations in high schools, churches, and to various other organizations or groups.
  • Hosts on-campus tours and information sessions for prospective students.
  • Assists with on campus recruiting events and new student events, including Pre-VU and New Student Orientation.
  • Assists new students with financial aid awarding process, academic registrations, housing arrangements and financial registration.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate Degree.
  • Experience or knowledge in public relations or marketing.
  • Ability to represent Vanguard University in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly (interpersonal communication, public address, and written communication) to students, parents, pastors, faculty, staff, and high school counselors.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work unsupervised.
  • Proficient working computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge and acceptance of principles and philosophies of Vanguard University.
