Description
Parks and Recreation is seeking a qualified individual to hire as an Adult Recreation Supervisor, who will be responsible for planning and overseeing our adult and senior recreation programs.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for an organized, community-minded professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering quality recreation experiences for Juneau residents. The ideal candidate brings a combination of program management experience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to independently manage complex schedules, competing priorities, and diverse user groups. You should be comfortable working across multiple facilities and programs, coordinating with community organizations and the Juneau School District, and serving as a knowledgeable and approachable point of contact for the public.
This role requires someone who is as comfortable behind a desk processing permits as they are on the gym floor, solving problems in real time. Essential qualities include:
THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM
The Parks and Recreation Department is one of the largest departments within the City and Borough of Juneau, and we like to think we have the most fun. We are committed to making Juneau a vibrant place to live, work, and play, and that starts with our own team. We value work-life balance, support professional growth through training, certifications, and conferences, and foster a workplace culture where people genuinely enjoy coming to work. As a learning organization, we embrace change and continually strive to improve our programs and processes for the community we serve.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position generally works Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., including, at times, evenings, weekends and holidays. This position will be located in the Marie Drake building located at 1415 Glacier Ave. and the main Parks & Recreation office at 1208 Glacier Ave.
Typical Responsibilities
As the Adult Recreation Supervisor, you will plan and oversee adult and senior recreation programs, including mens and womens volleyball leagues, coed volleyball, and drop-in pickleball, serving hundreds of participants each year. Growing and expanding senior programming in Juneau is a priority for the Department, and this position will lead that effort.
This role puts you at the center of the action. You will manage scheduling, public programming, and operations across multiple gymnasiums, including Floyd Dryden and Marie Drake, and administer field use for Parks & Rec sports fields at Dimond Park, Melvin Park, Glacier Valley, Savikko Park and Adair Kennedy Park in coordination with community organizations and the Juneau School District.
You will serve as the Departments primary permit specialist, issuing and administering commercial use, vending & concessions, special event, facility, and field use permits across CBJ parks, trails, and facilities. You will supervise Adult Games Officials and Recreation Worker IIs, lead volleyball classification meetings with the Player Advisory Board, coordinate with over ten community sports organizations, and play an active role in shaping the future of adult recreation programming in Juneau.
If you are a self-starter who thrives on variety and wants to make a tangible impact on recreation in Juneau, this role offers exactly that. From managing complex schedules and building relationships with community organizations to handling permits and growing recreational programming, we want to hear from you.
