Basic Qualifications :

High School diploma or equivalent required. In addition, 4 years of related experience with experience in chemical/waste handling preferred.

Responsibilities for this Position:

**THIS IS A 2ND SHIFT POSITION**

 

ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:

As a Chemical Technician for General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) Precision Structures & Optics (PSO) located in Cullman, AL, you’ll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for supporting chemical finishing operations by processing manufacturing hardware, tooling, and samples through chemical etching, surface treatment, media blasting, plating, anodizing, thermal cycling/heat treatment, masking, or cleaning and packing as required.  At General Dynamics Mission Systems we manufacture Beryllium products for use in the most demanding applications, across the aerospace, defense, and nuclear industries.  Our products are used in high performance sensing systems for targeting and acquisition, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, and are hardened for the battlefield environment.

 

Job Duties:

• Perform chemical cleaning, etching, stripping, conversion coating, passivation, anodizing, plating, and other surface treatment operations in accordance with approved process instructions
• Prepare, rack, fixture, mask, unmask, and process parts to ensure required surfaces are protected or treated correctly
• Operate and monitor plating, anodizing, chemical-processing, rinse, drying, and related equipment
• Conduct thermal cycling, heat-treatment support, baking, curing, drying, or other temperature-controlled processes as assigned and qualified
• Perform clean-and-pack activities, including final cleaning, preservation, protective wrapping, labeling, and packaging of completed parts
• Ensure components are protected from contamination, corrosion, handling damage, and foreign-object debris throughout processing and packaging
• Follow drawings, routers, work instructions, process specifications, and acceptance criteria
• Conduct visual and basic dimensional inspections of parts before, during, and after processing; identify conditions such as incomplete coating, staining, pitting, burns, discoloration, contamination, or masking defects
• Notify supervision, quality, engineering, or maintenance personnel when equipment, chemistry, process parameters, or product quality is outside established requirements
• Maintain traceability of parts, process lots, chemicals, materials, and certifications as required
• Safely handle chemicals, acids, bases, solvents, plating solutions, hazardous materials, and controlled process waste
• Use required PPE as applicable
• Comply with all environmental, health, safety, hazardous waste, and emergency response procedures
• Support spill prevention, containment, response, and reporting activities in accordance with site requirements
• Train or assist in training new personnel on approved processes after obtaining appropriate qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Familiarity with aerospace and industry specifications, such as customer requirements, internal process specifications, and applicable standards, is preferred
• Ability to follow detailed written work instructions, process specifications, safety procedures, and production documentation
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and recordkeeping
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to safely work around chemicals, fumes, noise, elevated temperatures, and wet-process environments while using required PPE

Salary Note: This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled. Combined Salary Range: USD $29.58 - USD $32.44 /Hr. Company Overview:
