Advanced Composites Lab Operations Manager for the Advanced Composite Office (ACO) located at Hill AFB, UT includes the following broad set of responsibilities:

• Developing, documenting, and managing processes • Maintaining excellent and consistent communication with the ACO client • Establishing and maintaining quality laboratory standards • Preparing for and conducting a variety of tests for ACO client and for UDRI Engineers • Working on ACO projects • Gathering and analyzing technical information • Creating and conducting a variety of laboratory training sessions • Fabricating and processing advanced composite components utilizing various hand layup techniques • Fabricating low-rate, recurring production items • Contributing ideas for additional coursework and educational sessions that could be offered by the ACO • Maintaining a quality lab environment • Maintaining technical knowledge of composite materials and test protocols • Identifying problems and working as a team to solve problems • Working with the ACO and UDRI Team to plan overall organizational goals and objectives • Communicating potential risk areas while identifying appropriate risk mitigation

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in a related field and six years of directly related experience, or ten years of directly related experience. • Experience with fabrication or repair of composite materials, in-depth knowledge of Air Force depot advanced composite manufacturing processes and inspection techniques. • Strong problem-solving training, team-building, and mentoring abilities. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to interact with engineers, field personnel, technicians, and clients with equal effectiveness. • Ability to acquire a CAC (Common Access Card). • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Experience working with and managing autoclaves, ovens, and CNC mill machines. • Proven ability to write technical reports, training materials, and quality reports. • Experience interpreting data trends, document controls, and technical orders. • Effective interpersonal communication skills. • Working knowledge of U.S. Air Force policies and procedures. • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision. • Demonstrated successful collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team located in a variety of locations across the United States.
