The Turbomachinery and Heat Exchanger Analysis group within the AAMD (Additive Analysis Mechanical and Design) directorate is responsible for the development and analysis of Environmental Control System (ECS) turbomachinery and heat exchangers, as well as electric traction drive motors. The successful applicant will be responsible for stress, vibration, and heat transfer analyses. Responsibilities include providing technical expertise on a variety of projects and programs. You will use your expert knowledge of engineering discipline and standards, processes and tools to ensure compliance with customer and program requirements. Other responsibilities include communicating with Project engineering teams, conduction of design reviews, presentations to internal and external customers and contributing to department process improvement initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform stress analysis using complex finite element & classical book calculation methods, & support testingPerform heat transfer analysis in practice and theory (analytical correlations and complex finite element methods) and related topics in thermodynamics, single and multi-phase flows, and energy systemsProvide technical oversight to global engineering teams across time zonesProvide technical guidance to junior engineersRequirements validationProject and product complianceRisk managementProcess DevelopmentRoot Cause and Corrective ActionQualificationsYou Must HaveBachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematicsMinimum of 4 years of experience performing thermal & stress analysis on turbomachinery, gas turbine engines, motors and/or other similar components and systemsProficiency in linear static, nonlinear/elasto-plastic, fatigue (HCF & LCF), modal, shock, harmonic, random vibration, & crack growth analysesProficiency in all modes of heat transfer, thermodynamics, thermal sciences, and two-phase thermophysicsStrong working knowledge of ANSYS finite element software & classical hand calculation methodsTurbomachinery backgroundWe ValueBachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or closely related field with emphasis in heat transfer or thermal sciences & stress analysisTeam PlayerAbility to mentor othersSignificant experience with new product development in a highly regulated environmentAbility to analyze and solve complex and challenging problemsEffectively operate in a matrix organizationTrack record of successful contribution to products & projectsKeen mindset to envision process improvements and execution of such initiativesExcellent written and oral communication skillsThe annual base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $144,000.
