Role: Advanced Medical Support Specialist (AMSS)
Core Duties:
- Manage patient scheduling, appointment coordination, and clinic calendars within a VA Primary Care (PACT) setting.
- Coordinate referrals, consults, and patient access services across departments.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for Veterans, ensuring timely and professional communication.
- Support front-office operations including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, and patient registration.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation within CPRS/VistA systems.
- Collaborate with providers, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure efficient clinic workflow.
- Manage incoming calls, secure messaging, and appointment requests.
- Ensure compliance with VA policies, scheduling protocols, and patient privacy regulations.
- Setting: VA Primary Care Clinic (PACT model)
- Environment: Outpatient clinic / front-office administrative setting
- Systems Used: CPRS/VistA
- Role Type: Non-clinical, administrative support
- Schedule: Monday–Friday clinic environment
- Standard daytime clinic hours (exact hours may vary)
- Contract Length: 1 year additional 1 year extension
Candidates should have 2–3 years of recent healthcare administrative or patient access experience in a clinical environment.
- 2–3 years of recent healthcare administrative experience
- Experience in medical office, patient access, scheduling, referrals, or front desk operations
- Medical administration certification preferred (e.g., CMAA or similar)
- Strong computer and EMR proficiency required
- Must successfully complete VA onboarding, background screening, and required training.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills required.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Must maintain professionalism and comply with VA standards.
