About the Role

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a talented and motivated Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the design, development, and integration of advanced systems aboard surface vessels. In this role, you will work across the full product lifecycle to deliver mission-critical solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges that have a real impact on our customers and their missions.

If you're passionate about engineering complex systems, thrive in collaborative environments, and want to make a meaningful contribution to naval surface vessel programs, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring our surface vessel systems are robust, secure, and mission-ready. Your core responsibilities will include:

    • Identifying, analyzing, and resolving system design weaknesses across multiple technical domains
    • Developing system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems
    • Providing system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support
    • Generating technical engineering products using appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
    • Participating in requirements analysis, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration, and verification testing
    • Performing interface definition studies of system components and products
    • Planning and executing sub-tasks across all phases of system development
    • Researching and analyzing data such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE/BFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Designing complete and complex frameworks, systems, or products
    • Performing technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements
    • Contributing to the shaping of future products by influencing the frameworks and processes used across multiple programs
    • Driving the achievement of business objectives through sound engineering practice

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

    • Fully proficient understanding and application of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Fully proficient use of tools for managing requirements and modeling systems
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information and report findings relevant to sound systems engineering design
    • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment throughout the product life cycle – from pre-proposal through post-delivery support
    • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office tools for various engineering tasks
    • Ability to quickly grasp and apply new information and handle complex assignments efficiently
    • Awareness of business objectives and the role of engineering in achieving those goals
    • Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions effectively
    • Ability to identify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation

Preferred Qualifications

We encourage you to apply even if you have only some of the following experiences. We value diverse backgrounds and are committed to developing our engineers:

    • Experience with sensor interfaces and measurements, and applying sensor data within engineering applications
    • Familiarity with basic sensors (e.g., temperature, strain gauge, pressure) or navigation sensors (e.g., GPS, MEMS IMU, radar systems)
    • Experience writing and executing test procedures in a requirements-based design and test verification environment
    • Background in core engineering disciplines, physics, or computer science
    • Experience with PLC-based control systems or maritime navigation systems
    • Familiarity with surface vessel platforms and their unique integration challenges
