Contract Type: Permanent

Hours/Working Pattern: Part Time

  • Salary: £31,022 - £31,537 pro rata per annum (actual salary £25,438 - £25,860) pay award pending.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours per week, term-time + 5 PL days

Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire, The Woodlands Academy

Start date: Required September 2026

The Woodlands Academy is part of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust and has recently moved into a new purpose built School.  Horizons Specialist Academy Trust comprises of eight Academies across Tees Valley and North Yorkshire and together we support over 1000 children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs.

As a Special Academy, we believe what we offer to our children, community and staff is unique and enables us to be forward thinking in terms of curriculum and provision. As a specialist school for children with a wide range of SEN needs we have a strong moral compass in everything we do and this has seen us develop and grow our number on roll (currently 152) and our specialisms which are predominant within Autism, Communication Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health.

Our staff are our greatest asset and we invest in both our teaching and support staff CPD which has placed us in a good position with regards to current educational challenges.

Our Opportunity

Our Academy is growing and is very popular with parents and within the community. As a result we are looking to appoint a highly motivated ATA to join our team and work with our children and support them to be the best they can be. As an Academy, we follow a primary model with the class lead delivering the whole curriculum as opposed to subject specialists.

Working in our Academy is incredibly rewarding as we all work together as part of the team enriching the education of our pupils. Our staff are highly regarded and we pride ourselves on developing our teams to excel and develop their career through specialised training and career paths.

We encourage applications from candidates who have a passion for special education and wish to work in a setting which offers reward and challenge and where no two days are the same!  Advanced Teaching Assistants work under the direction of the Class Lead and other appropriate staff, assisting in and contributing to the planning, delivery and evaluation of the learning process.  The role will involve working with both groups and individual pupils.

  • Applicants should have a genuine interest in working with children with special needs and are required to have:
  • Good written & communication skills
  • Experience appropriate to working with children in an education setting.
  • Be committed to fostering an environment that is encouraging, caring and supporting, with the physical and medical needs of children being catered for to the highest standard

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dedicated team who have a clear philosophy and ethos of how they will work together to meet the needs of the pupils in their care and ensure our pupils can be the best they can be.

Application forms and further details are available for download on the Trust Website: https://www.horizonstrust.org.uk/jobs

Completed application forms should be returned by 12 noon on Friday 3 July 2026 to HR Department, C/O Abbey Hill Academy, Ketton Road, Stockton On Tees, TS19 8BU or by email to HSATHR@horizonstrust.org.uk
