GENERAL SUMMARY:

The APRN or PA-C, under the supervision of the collaborating reconstructive surgeon, will serve as an advanced practice provider in a high-volume outpatient reconstructive surgery practice. This is a clinic-only position focused on comprehensive perioperative and longitudinal management of reconstructive surgery patients. This role does not include operating room responsibilities or aesthetic/cosmetic practice.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned clinician with excellent clinical judgment, and a passion for patient-centered care, surgical optimization, surgical pain management, wound management, and team mentorship. The APP will function as a mentor to nursing staff while collaborating closely with the APP team, surgeons and interdisciplinary team members to provide high-quality, coordinated care. The successful candidate must be a collaborative team player who works well within a multidisciplinary APP and surgical team environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations and physical examinations for reconstructive surgery patients, including new consultations, follow-up visits, pre-operative evaluations, and post-operative care
  • Manage complex reconstructive surgery patients in the outpatient setting with emphasis on surgical optimization, recovery, and complication prevention
  • Provide advanced wound assessment and management, including dressing changes, debridement, drain management, suture/staple removal, and management of surgical complications within scope of practice
  • Develop and manage evidence-based perioperative and post-surgical pain management plans utilizing multimodal strategies 
  • Order, interpret, and manage appropriate diagnostic testing including laboratory studies and imaging
  • Monitor patient progress and coordinate referrals to specialists or additional services as indicated ?
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, nursing staff, rehabilitation providers, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity and excellence of care
  • Serve as a mentor and clinical resource for nursing staff and other team members, supporting education, workflow optimization, and professional development
  • Foster positive working relationships and effective communication within the APP team and broader multidisciplinary care team
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience initiatives within the reconstructive surgery division
  • Maintain professionalism, clinical excellence, and ongoing professional growth

SCHEDULE DETAILS:

  • Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm out-patient
  • Main location: AdventHealth Orlando at Innovation Tower
  • Flexibility to attend meetings outside regular working hours

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong perioperative clinical expertise
  • Advanced assessment and medical decision-making skills
  • Experience managing complex surgical wounds and post-operative complications
  • Knowledge of multimodal and evidence-based surgical pain management strategies
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, nursing staff, APP colleagues, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong leadership, communication, mentorship, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative APP and surgical team

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies
  • Perioperative experience preferred but not required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience practicing as an APRN or PA-C

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION:

  • Current, valid Florida PA or APRN license
  • Current, valid DEA registration or eligibility to obtain DEA registration
  • Certification by NCCPA, ANCC, AANP or other nationally recognized certification organization as appropriate
  • BLS required & ACLS preferred
