South Dakota State University's College of Nursing is seeking an Academic Advisor who is passionate about student growth and success. This role offers the opportunity to build meaningful connections with students while contributing to a collaborative and supportive academic environment. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advise pre-nursing and nursing students, monitor academic performance, and track progress toward graduation requirements.
  • Conduct interviews with prospective students and facilitate evaluation of transfer credits for admitted students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing Student Services (NSS) on recruitment and retention activities, including orientation for students entering the major.
  • Verify academic standing for purposes related to financial aid and the Board of Nursing.
  • Assist with the distribution and review of applications for admission to the nursing major.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records in accordance with college requirements.
  • Coordinate with the NSS Program Assistant I to ensure timely communication with prospective and enrolled students.
  • Work closely with campus partners such as the Registrar, Admissions, and Financial Aid offices to support student success.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree related to duties completed by date of application;
  • At least one year of experience in Counseling, Advising, Education, or other related field;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills; and
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, and a willingness to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience with evaluating transcripts and new student orientation.
  • Demonstrated experience with Banner Student or other student information systems.
