The Opportunity
The College Success Advisor is responsible for supporting a cohort of college students as they navigate the system of higher education. This includes troubleshooting financial issues, coaching students on academic challenges and connecting them to opportunities related to college and career success. The College Success Advisor also supports programming and events managed by the College Success Team and collaborates as needed with other departments serving students across the organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Being an informed, supportive and motivational advisor to students navigating higher education.
  • Maintaining ongoing contact with college student program participants via multiple channels of communication including email, phone calls, texting and in-person  and virtual meetings.
  • Connecting collegians with campus and community resources to help them solve issues.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with campus liaisons who advocate for collegians.
  • Visiting campuses to meet with liaisons and students and to understand available resources.
  • Organizing group events, both informational and social, to promote peer support and collaboration among student cohorts.
  • Collecting, recording and maintaining student data, documents, notes of interactions and student progress in established data management systems.
  • Maintaining contact with collegians temporarily out of college, assisting with plans to return to school and/or work.
  • Guiding collegians in transition from college to career (e.g., resumes, interview skills, internships, etc.) in collaboration with Career Pathways team.
  • Supporting ongoing relationships with PF alumni. 
  • Reporting to work on a regular basis and is available for occasional after-hours emergency calls and projects.
  • Summer duties as assigned by Managing Director, Postsecondary Success
  • May be asked to perform additional duties not listed in the job description as required by business needs.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience in related field. 
  • Dedicated remote work area that is quiet enough for employee to concentrate is required. Must have homeowner’s or renter’s insurance and the ability to comply with company technology, safety, and health requirements.
  • Ability to travel on occasion as required to attend meetings and/or events.
  • Ability to frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • May require more than forty (40) hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.

Who You Are

In addition to your experience, expertise and strengths, you must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Check] at hire and every five years thereafter. You’ll also need to adhere to COVID safety guidelines as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $55,000 - $59,000. Heights offers competitive base salaries based on the Philadelphia market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Work Arrangements

Heights Philadelphia currently maintains a hybrid work environment where staff work from home, in our Center City office, and on-site with school partners, as determined by the staff member's or team’s responsibilities. We also prioritize time together as an organization through our staff convenings and professional development - living in our value of succeeding together. This role is required to report in person for a minimum of 2 days per week, one of which is Wednesday for all office-based staff. Additional reporting days may be necessary depending on the priorities and schedule for a specific team. For school-based staff, it is required that you report in person 4 days per week.
