Advisor for Initial Licensure Programs

Salary: $45,000

Position Type: Full-time

Position Summary

The School of Education at Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) seeks a student-centered Academic Advisor for Initial Licensure Programs. This role supports undergraduate and graduate students pursuing teacher licensure through academic advising, program coordination, and progress monitoring. The advisor works closely with the Dean, faculty, and program leadership to ensure student success and timely degree completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise students in initial licensure programs on academic planning and progression
  • Monitor student progress and communicate program requirements and milestones
  • Develop and update curriculum plans and program pathways
  • Coordinate course scheduling and assist with faculty assignments
  • Collaborate with the Initial Programs Committee to support program priorities
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and licensure requirements
  • Support student retention, persistence, and completion

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience in academic advising, higher education, or student support services
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with teacher preparation or licensure programs
  • Familiarity with curriculum planning and student information systems
  • Experience working with diverse and multilingual student populations

Impact of the Role

This position is critical to reducing advisor caseloads (currently 200-400 students per advisor), improving advising access, supporting student retention, and ensuring program quality and compliance.
