Job Summary

The Career Services Advisor (CSA) provides career guidance and workforce preparation support to students, including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search strategies. This role builds and maintains employer partnerships, coordinates career events, and tracks student employment outcomes. CSAs support internship and job placement initiatives while contributing to the college's broader workforce development and student success goals through strategic engagement with students, employers, and campus partners.

Responsible for demonstrating LSSC's core values of Caring, Communication, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.

IMPACT STATEMENT: This position will support the strategic goal of student learning and success by equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to achieve their career goals. Through intentional advising, targeted programming, and strategic partnerships, this position directly impacts student retention, completion, and post-graduation employment outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide individualized and group career advising to students and alumni, including career exploration, major selection, career planning, and goal setting.
  • Assist students with resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, job search strategies, networking, and professional branding.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver career development workshops, classroom presentations, and other career readiness programming.
  • Guide students in identifying and securing internships, apprenticeships, employment, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Utilize career assessments, labor market information, and workforce data to assist students in making informed educational and career decisions.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with employers, business and industry partners, community organizations, and workforce agencies to expand career opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic departments, and campus partners to integrate career readiness competencies into academic programs and student success initiatives.
  • Coordinate and support career fairs, employer information sessions, networking events, and on-campus recruiting activities.
  • Maintain accurate student records and utilize career services technologies to document advising interactions, monitor student engagement, and assess program outcomes.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare reports on student participation, employment outcomes, and program effectiveness.
  • Remain current on employment trends, labor market conditions, workforce development initiatives, and best practices in career services and student advising.
  • Provide specialized career advising and support to designated student populations and academic programs, as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and college committees, professional development activities, and other institutional initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

  • Required:

  • Bachelors Degree + 4 or more years of related experience or Masters Degree + 2 or more years of related experience.

  • Preferred:

  • Experience with higher education student services.

JOB STATUSES AND REQUIREMENTS

Career Services Advisor I (CSA I)

  • Requirements: Bachelors Degree + 4 or more years of related experience or Masters Degree + 2 or more years of related experience.
  • Promotion to CSA II: CSA I employees in good standing (satisfactory or above on annual performance evaluations) for 2 consecutive years must submit a written request to the VP-ESA and department head outlining accomplishments, professional development, and career interests. Professional Development must include the successful completion of at least one approved professional credential or training program. Promotions will take place in August or January, whichever comes first, pending approved budgets.

Career Services Advisor II (CSA II)

  • Requirements: Good standing in the CSA I role for 2 years.
  • Promotion to SAA: CSA II employees in good standing (satisfactory or above on annual performance evaluations) for 2 consecutive years must submit a written request to the VP-ESA and department head outlining accomplishments, professional development, and career interests. Professional Development must include the successful completion of at least one approved professional credential or training program. Promotions will take place in August or January, whichever comes first, pending approved budgets.

Senior Career Services Advisor (SCSA)

  • Requirements: Commitment to additional professional development, peer training, supervision of student assistants, and coordination of special projects.
