This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Fall 2026 and will run through the end of the year, with the possibility of extending additional semesters.ResponsibilitiesApply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help promote policy issues on housing, transportation, health, and other AARP priority quality of life issuesEngage in the communications strategies to advance these issues and the events organized as part of these effortsAssist in developing and executing overall strategic communications outreach, especially social media & video contentResearch policy issues, draft documents to support our advocacy efforts, participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate in communications tactics, and engage in a support role for various remote and in-person eventsProvide general operational assistance to the Communications and Outreach/Advocacy teams working on various projects and activities, including event coordination and general administrative supportProvide support to staff for volunteer outreach & recruitmentResearch potential partners and stakeholders to reach new target audiences/multicultural audiencesQualificationsMust be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internshipMust be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlinesAbility to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work prioritiesAbility to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientationFamiliarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plusKnowledge of communications and advocacy campaignsAARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time.Additional RequirementsRegular and reliable job attendanceExhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationshipsIndependent judgment in evaluation options to make sound decisionsIn office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noiseAbility to occasionally lift up to 25 poundsHybrid Work EnvironmentAARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.Compensation and BenefitsThe hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates.
