    Job Description

    The Advocacy Intern will assist the organization in advancing its mission and objectives through advocacy,

    research, administration, communication, and other public policy activities. This position involves collaborating

    closely and supporting the work of the Government Relations & Public Policy Manager. This internship is a

    3-month temporary position (start and end dates are flexible). The intern will work a hybrid schedule from

    SAVE’s Bloomington office location.
     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Policy Research and Reporting

    • Support the identification and tracking of relevant policy that advances SAVE's four pillars at the state and federal level: Education and Training, Advocacy, Lethal Means Safety, and Support for Suicide Loss Survivors.
    • Assist with monitoring of budget and appropriations processes relevant to suicide prevention funding.

    Strategic Partnerships and Coalition Development

    • Research and monitor strategic partnership opportunities, coalitions, and associations that advance SAVE's policy agenda.
    • Monitor the partnership and coalition landscape to anticipate emerging alliances and opportunities relevant to SAVE's mission and policy priorities.
    • Support SAVE’s work with NSPAN, including taking meeting minutes, assisting with member communications and social media content, and maintaining shared documents and resources.
    • Support SAVE’s work with CSPPI, including identifying new advocates to partner with and conducting outreach to prospective partners in the construction, engineering, infrastructure, and survivor communities.
    • Support CSPPI functionality by scheduling meetings, supporting communications and social media content, and maintaining shared documents and resources.

    Volunteer Advocate Engagement and Mobilization

    • Support the execution of advocacy activities and events.
    • Assist in developing communication materials, including program updates, newsletters, and social media content.
    • Cultivate relationships with partners, volunteers, and community members.
    • Support in activating volunteers for advocacy days of action.

    Administrative Duties

    • Assist in monitoring advocacy progress, including tracking key performance indicators and milestones.
    • Collect and analyze advocacy data to measure effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Coordinate advocacy timelines, deadlines, and deliverables.
    • Provide general administrative and project management support as requested.
    • Maintain advocacy-related documentation, records, and databases.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Government Relations & Public Policy Manager.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, social sciences, public administration).
    • College seniors, graduate students, or recent graduates with a degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, social sciences, public administration) who seek policy and advocacy experience.
    • Ideal candidates have a strong academic background and excellent oral and written communication skills.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in using productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
    • Passion for and commitment to the mission and values of SAVE.
