PGS Worldwide is seeking an Aeronautical Design Engineer in Chandler, AZ for a one-year contract role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The Aeronautical Design Engineer will support Advanced Programs missile system development by designing major components, assemblies, mechanisms, and structures. This role focuses on 3D CAD design, engineering drawings, GD&T, design-for-manufacturing, first-order structural analysis, materials considerations, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams supporting missile hardware development.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with an advanced 3D CAD package, preferably Siemens NX.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate engineering drawings for procurement.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience applying GD&T.
  • Ability to apply first-order structural analysis and hand calculations to support product design.
  • High mechanical aptitude with experience working on mechanical systems in a professional or personal setting.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams to meet shared goals.
  • Good understanding of material science as it applies to aerospace metallic materials.
  • Microsoft Office experience, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance in the future.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced training or certification in GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Siemens NX experience.
  • Machine shop experience programming or operating CNC mills or lathes for aerospace hardware.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Understanding of material science as it applies to aerospace composite and non-metallic materials.
  • Experience with missile systems, aerospace structures, mechanical design, energetics, CAD modeling, engineering layouts, procurement drawings, stress analysis, performance testing, manufacturability, and advanced aerospace product development.

What You’ll Do

  • Design major components or major portions of missile systems.
  • Develop or improve aerospace products and support manufacturing operations.
  • Create preliminary layouts, sketches, notes, and design proposal data.
  • Evaluate design factors including structure, thermal performance, manufacturability, material availability, equipment availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-to-weight efficiency, contract requirements, and cost.
  • Coordinate design development with affected organizations and technical teams.
  • Create layouts of complex assemblies and detail parts for devices, mechanisms, and structures.
  • Review completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, standards compliance, specification compliance, calculation accuracy, and dimensioning accuracy.
  • Design, develop, and test missile components and assemblies.
  • Establish structural specifications.
  • Perform stress analysis and support performance testing.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams supporting Advanced Programs missile system development.

Work Schedule / Shift

  • Onsite in Chandler, AZ.
  • 9x80 A schedule.
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Pay

  • $81.21/hour
