Aerospace 5-Axis CAM Programmer & Machinist
About the Role
At AMI Aviation Services, LLC, you’ll bring complex aircraft components to life. In this hands-on role, you will program, set up, operate, and continuously refine a Haas 5-axis CNC milling platform to produce precision parts and prototypes for FAA PMA and STC programs.
A Day in the Life
Your morning kicks off by reviewing FAA-approved data, CAD models, and engineering drawings. You’ll translate those into efficient multi-axis toolpaths using Fusion 360, Mastercam, SolidCAM, or similar CAM tools. After a meticulous setup on the Haas 5-axis VMC, you’ll run prove-outs, validate the first article, and fine-tune feeds, speeds, and strategies for optimal results. Throughout the day, you’ll collaborate with Engineering and Quality to resolve manufacturability challenges, document revisions, and prepare the cell for repeatable production.
What You’ll Do
- Create, modify, and optimize 5-axis CNC programs focused on accuracy, surface finish, and cycle time.
- Develop robust toolpaths using Fusion 360, Mastercam, SolidCAM, or equivalent CAM software.
- Interpret CAD models, engineering drawings, and FAA-approved manufacturing documentation.
- Set up and run Haas 5-axis CNC milling equipment with confidence and precision.
- Perform machine setup, conduct prove-outs, and complete first article validation.
- Support prototype builds, PMA production, and STC-related fabrication tasks.
- Maintain strict revision control for CNC programs and setup documentation.
- Partner closely with Engineering and Quality to troubleshoot and improve processes.
What You Bring (Required)
- 3+ years of experience programming and machining on 5-axis equipment.
- Hands-on experience programming and operating Haas 5-axis CNC mills.
- Deep understanding of multi-axis machining strategies and best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret aerospace engineering drawings and CAD models.
- Working knowledge of GD&T.
- Experience machining aerospace materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.
- Proven ability to hold tight aerospace tolerances with minimal supervision.
Nice to Have (Preferred)
- Familiarity with FAA-regulated manufacturing environments.
- Background supporting PMA, STC, or prototype aircraft component builds.
- Experience with aerospace quality systems and configuration management.
Physical Demands
- Stand for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
- Aviation manufacturing and machine shop setting.
