Schedule
First shift only: 10-hour days starting between 5:00–6:00 a.m.
Day in the Life
You start your morning reviewing drawings and specs for a first-article fabrication. You calculate a tricky radius, set up the part on a surface plate, and verify critical features with a CMM and precision tools. An out-of-tolerance condition pops—your troubleshooting narrows it to a fixturing issue, and you document the finding, recommend a correction, and release a clear, concise inspection report. Before lunch, you validate a forged component’s geometry using sine bars and gauge blocks; after lunch, you perform a layout, record SPC data, and close the day with a collaborative review of nonconforming product trends.
What You’ll Do
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specs to determine materials, finishes, and dimensional requirements
- Compute angles, radii, and other derived dimensions using shop math and formulas
- Measure length, height, distance, and angles with CMMs and precision instruments: micrometers, calipers, V‑blocks, sine bars, dial indicators, gauge blocks, height gages, protractors, optical comparators, bore gages, ultrasonic equipment, and a profilometer
- Inspect first‑run parts, weldments, fabrications, and assemblies
- Position castings/forgings on a surface plate; establish reference points and centerlines for layout
- Document inspection and test results with clear, actionable reports
- Investigate defects, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of hands-on quality inspection in manufacturing preferred; aerospace/defense experience a plus
- Training with Statistical Process Control (SPC) data collection/analysis preferred
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Visual requirements: Jaeger 1 at 12" with corrective lenses and passing Ishihara Color Vision; annual exams required
- Must be 18 years of age or older
