This is an environment where you learn by building. Whether you"re creating cloud-native solutions, optimizing machine learning models, or building products that drive experiences for millions of customers around the globe, your work reaches the world, fast. You"ll take ownership early, collaborate across teams and disciplines, and grow your skills as you tackle new problems. There"s no single path forward here, with a chance to explore different directions and shape your journey as you go. This is where ambition meets opportunity and, where the impact of what you build helps define what comes next, for customers and for you.

Amazon Leo is looking for an Aerospace Hardware Development Engineers to design and optimize circuitry for satellite systems and develop proof of concept prototypes for next-generation satellite hardware. This role requires close collaboration with radiation, power, mechanical, thermal, RF, and software teams. Responsibilities also include designing automated test systems, test fixtures, and factory tests, as well as leading bring-up and qualification test campaigns.

This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging opportunity to work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You"ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you"ll be constantly looking for ways to improve. We want individuals who want to reach beyond what is possible today. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. Our team is responsible for delivering flight-qualified hardware that enables thousands of satellites to fly.

As an Amazon Leo Aerospace Hardware Engineer you will work with multiple engineering teams across ground and space systems to design, analyze, build, and test hardware assemblies and components for satellite applications. Your focus will be on hardware development from concept through qualification, supporting the introduction of new generations of satellites.

    • Develop closed-loop control algorithms leveraging sensor peripherals, microcontrollers, and custom silicon, as well as innovative hardware designs and processes to optimize spacecraft capabilities.
    • Implement hardware design strategies to mitigate product risks to stakeholders.
    • Work with avionics, payload, radiation, power, mechanical, thermal, RF, and software teams to gather requirements, develop hardware architectures, determine applicable design constraints, and prepare for hardware integration.
    • Collaborate with responsible engineers, manufacturing engineers, software developers, tooling teams, and ground support teams to deliver flight-qualified hardware ready for launch and ensure every Leo device shipped meets requirements.
    • Communicate fluidly across teams to identify hardware design risks and how they will be addressed to ensure mission success.
    • Enable data-driven performance insights through automated test execution, collection, and analysis pipelines, including complex test automation sequences using scripting languages such as Python.
    • Work hands-on with hardware test equipment.
    • Define and execute software release processes, CI/CD, and quality verification.
    • Deliver clear documentation and user-focused software for engineering and manufacturing teams.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
