Step into a leadership role at Nelson Engineering where precision TIG welding meets aerospace-grade craftsmanship. You’ll guide a tight-knit welding team, uphold exacting standards, and keep production flowing smoothly on a 4x10 schedule—four 10-hour days—with overtime available when manufacturing demand calls for it.
A Day in the Role
Your day begins by reviewing the production plan, prioritizing and scheduling work across sheet stock, tubing, machined details, and castings in multiple aerospace alloys and thicknesses. On the floor, you’ll mentor welders, verify setups, perform welds yourself when needed, and ensure the department consistently meets quality, safety, and on-time delivery targets. You’ll also coordinate with upstream/downstream teams and be ready to support internal and external audits.
What You’ll Lead
High-precision TIG welding of aerospace components across varied materials and gauges
Job prioritization, detailed scheduling, and throughput optimization
Hands-on training, coaching, and mentoring in a collaborative team setting
Continuous upkeep of departmental quality, performance, and 5S-level organization
Cross-functional teamwork with adjacent departments to remove roadblocks
Preparation for, and participation in, internal/external audits
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of aerospace TIG welding experience
At least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity
Thorough understanding of AWS D17.1 Fusion Welding and NADCAP requirements
Knowledge of AWS D17.2 Resistance Welding (spot and seam) preferred
Experience with a turntable or positioner and purge welding
High school diploma or equivalent
Effective verbal and written communication; strong work ethic; able to work independently and within a team
