JOB SUMMARY:
The After School Academic & Community Coordinator plans and implements academic and recreational objectives as outlined in the 21stCCLC application guidelines in collaboration with the director, school staff, and the community. The Academic Coordinator works with school staff and the MTSS Coordinator to bridge academic interventions afterschool based on data. In addition, the coordinator will work with the family liaison team, parent advisory councils, and community partners to build community connections, run our parent volunteer program, and bring guest speakers and hands on experiences into the program. The After School Academic & Community Coordinator is responsible for maintaining confidentiality, safety, district policy, and Federal & State regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of child and youth development and their application to the 21stCCLC program, including: use of positive guidance techniques to manage the behavior of youth; Interaction with youth in ways that encourage personal growth and development of strong communication skills; and exploration of interests and abilities while nurturing development of positive self-esteem.
• Maintain a physically safe environment that encourages wellness and physical development
• Create a bias free environment that reflects the diversity (cultures, religions, race, sexual orientation etc.) of participants and provides activities that explore and honor differences between individuals
• Provide opportunity for youth to develop peer relationships, practice appropriate group behaviors, and demonstrate respect for others.
• Coordinate 21stCCLC services with Orondo School Staff ensuring that both academic and activity goals supplement and enhance the students’ program of instruction.
• Collaborate with the Orondo School’s School Improvement Team to develop an out of school program that supports academic achievement and physical and leadership development of students in grades K8.
• Demonstrate management skills necessary for program implementation such as resourcefulness, time management, and supervision of program staff, record keeping and collaboration with stakeholders.
• Supervise project assistants working in the 21stCCLC program
• Collaborate with the Orondo School Principal in the development of performance reviews for staff serving in the 21stCCLC.
• Build relationships with families and other organizations in the community that encourage support of and involvement in the program.
• Coordinate afterschool clubs and parent volunteers.
• Coordinate with the Orondo School District Principal and the Orondo School District Home Visitor to publicize 21stCCLC programs and to recruit student and family participation
• Act in a professional manner including adherence to program policies and commitment to professional growth by pursuing opportunities to enhance skills.
• Coordinate with community partners and volunteers.
• Coordinate the evaluation of the 21stCCLC with the external evaluator and provide for internal evaluation of program services.
• Monitor student progress and use these data to revise 21stCCLC services as needed to maximize student success
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of proper English grammar, spelling, and usage in both oral and written communication
• Ability to handle confidential matters and information in a professional manner
• Ability to work in an atmosphere where interruptions occur frequently and priorities are often modified using a high degree of flexibility
• Ability and willingness to upgrade skills to maintain the highest level of efficiency and high quality work
• Ability to read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working with children and youth.
• Ability to plan and implement a program of engaging activities in a physically and socially/emotionally safe environment.
• Excellent organizational skills including the ability to implement a program of services from specifications, build schedules, supervise staff and maintain documentation
• Ability to design and supervise group activities that engage youth in a physically and
emotionally safe environment
• Good driving record, background check, must submit driving abstract
• High School Diploma
• AA degree in childhood/youth services or related field (or alternatively, demonstrates
equivalent experience appropriate to the responsibilities of the position)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bilingual: English/Spanish
• Experience working in a multi-cultural setting
• WA State teaching certificate with a K-8 endorsement
• WA State principal certificate
• WA state teaching credential ELL/BLE, Literacy
