• Days: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
• Hours: 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM

About the Position

The Homework Club Monitor supervises students during Bank Street's after school Homework Club, providing a structured, quiet, and supportive environment where students can complete homework, read independently, and develop positive study habits. Working under the supervision of the Auxiliary Programs team, the Monitor fosters independence, responsibility, and respectful behavior among middle school students between the ages of 10 and 14. This role is well suited to a responsible, organized, and caring educator who enjoys supporting students' academic growth outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Student Supervision and Academic Support

• Supervise students during Homework Club while maintaining a safe, quiet, and productive environment
• Assist students with homework by providing guidance and encouragement, without completing assignments for them
• Encourage independent learning, organization, and effective study habits
• Enforce Homework Club expectations, including maintaining a quiet workspace and following program rules

Community and Behavior Support

• Build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff
• Monitor student behavior and address conflicts using positive behavior management strategies
• Uphold Bank Street's values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and respect
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all students throughout the program

Program Operations

• Take daily attendance and communicate any absences or concerns to the Auxiliary Programs team
• Oversee student dismissal, ensuring students are released to authorized adults or according to school dismissal procedures
• Assist with setting up and cleaning the Homework Club space before and after each session
• Communicate concerns regarding student academic progress, behavior, or well-being to the Auxiliary Programs team as appropriate

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma
• Experience working with school-age children in an educational, camp, or after school setting
• Ability to maintain a calm, structured, and positive learning environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Dependability, organization, and a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree or current college enrollment
• Experience supporting students with homework or academic enrichment
• Experience with progressive education
• Prior experience working as part of the Bank Street community
