Description
The City of Oxnards Cultural and Community Services Department is seeking energetic Afterschool Program Instructors to be part of our team!
Under general supervision, the After School Program Instructor performs general recreation and human services program duties involving youth; provides instruction or training to program participants; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties; and performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Afterschool Program Instructor is the entry-level position that allows the incumbent to develop journey level knowledge and abilities. Initially, under closer supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties related to recreational and human services programs and activities and may reasonably expect to have the position allocated to the Afterschool Site Leader level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency which meets the qualifications for the higher level class.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by a Recreation/Human Services Leader III or higher level recreation program personnel. An Afterschool Site Leader may provide functional and technical supervision to subordinate recreation leaders or volunteers.
WORK SCHEDULE
These positions work various schedules and at various locations throughout the city of Oxnard and Port Hueneme. These positions may be required to be available to work additional hours as needed to respond to workload needs. These positions are not governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and are eligible for overtime pay.
PLEASE NOTE
Extra-Help positions are not expected to last more than 960 hours. Under the terms of the Citys benefits plan and policies, this position is not eligible for benefits due to the short duration of employment. In this position, employment with the City of Oxnard is at will, and those selected for temporary placement retain the option, as does the City of Oxnard, to end employment at any time, with or without notice and with or without cause.

City staff may be required to play an active role in the event of an emergency, which may include changes in responsibilities and working hours.
There are currently multiple Extra Help positions in the Cultural and Community Services Department.
Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
