Description

RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to assist and instruct children in homework during after school sessions at the Mellonville Center at Tim Raines Sports Park and the Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center to improve their reading, math, science, technology and art skills.

Examples of Duties

Provides instruction to children on how to improve their reading, writing, math, science, technology and art skills.

Plan and implements lesson plans for daily after school study program.

Monitors and interacts with children.

Prepares and maintains records and reports on daily activities.

Communicates with parents and after school supervisory personnel.

Requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace.

Perform related duties as assigned including games and activities with children prior to and following tutoring sessions.

ADDITIONAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

TEMPORARY PART-TIME

Associate's Degree in Education, Educational Instruction, or a related field; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in teaching children and/or adults, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

The selected candidate will be required to complete an Affidavit of Good Moral Character; an Authorization for Criminal History Check; to include a level 2 National Criminal History Background Screen. (including Department of Children and Families clearance).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Educational Instruction or a related field.
  • Teaching Certification.

Employee shall obtain the National Incident Management System ICS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System and IS-700 National Incident Management System, An Introduction within six (6) months of employment. The following courses are designed to provide a baseline, as they introduce basic NIMS and ICS concepts and provide the foundation for higher-level Emergency Operations Center (EOC), MACS, and ICS related training.

Skilled in both oral and written communications.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Able to operate necessary equipment, including computer, calculator, copier, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the essential functions of this position there is potential for exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, outside weather conditions, excessive noise, and dampness/humidity.
