Job Summary: The Afternoon Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children throughout the afternoon at the Chapel Hill Child Development Center.
Additional Department Summary: Assists children as they wake from naps, help roll up nap mats, and prepare and serve afternoon snacks. Engages children through play, conversation, and age-appropriate activities that support their social and emotional development. Supervises children in the classroom, gym, and playground, ensuring their safety, health, and well-being at all times. Collaborates with co-teachers to provide consistent care and support throughout the afternoon. Fosters positive social interactions and guide children in developing appropriate social skills. Greets parents and guardians at pick-up, sharing positive updates about their child's afternoon and daily experiences. Maintains active supervision, ensuring children remain with the group at all times. Helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning and play environments. Supports the overall daily operations of the classroom as needed.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must have experience in group care with children birth to 5 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications: Child Development, Child Life, and Education majors. Experience working with children and/or infants up to five years of age in group settings. Understanding of Child Development birth to five years of age. Ability to engage with children in play. Assist children with social, mental, and emotional growth. Ability to pay attention and ensure the health and safety of the children.
