Position Overview

The After School Manager will work with the Impact Department to implement and maintain high quality after school programming in City Year partner schools in Philadelphia and Norristown. On a daily basis, the After School Manager will serve as the primary organizational lead for after school programming, providing strategic oversight, implementation support, and continuous quality improvement across all partner sites. The Manager is responsible for ensuring high-quality program delivery, strengthening school partnerships, coaching and developing staff, maintaining compliance with grant and organizational requirements, and using data to drive decision-making and student outcomes. They will manage a team of two grant-funded, part-time, hourly direct reports.

This is a year-round, part-time, hourly position at 25 hours/week, $25/hour, and grant-funded through April 2029. This position is not benefits eligible.

The role requires a 5 days in-person at Philadelphia and Norristown area schools with the ability to work occasional evening hours.

The anticipated start date for the position is September/October 2026.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 2-4+ years of experience in child development, education, social services, or comparable experience Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America

  • Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, facilitate meetings, and deliver professional development

  • Ability to design and implement systems and processes that improve program effectiveness and operational efficiency

  • Experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff or teams

  • Experience overseeing multi-site or school-based programming

  • Strong understanding of positive youth development and evidence-based practices

  • Knowledge of grant-funded programming and compliance requirements

  • Experience using data to inform decision-making

  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships with school leaders, educators, and families

  • Prior City Year or AmeriCorps experience

Responsibilities

The After School Manager will perform the following roles and responsibilities as described below:

Program Management and Strategy

  • Lead the implementation of afterschool programming across 14 partner schools.

  • Align afterschool strategy with organizational priorities, grant requirements, and school needs

  • Monitor program quality and ensure consistency of implementation across sites

  • Collaborate with team members for program development and implementation

Coaching and Staff Management

  • Supervise and coach two Afterschool Coordinators

  • Develops and empowers team members through development plans, feedback, and coaching to build skills and autonomy

  • Partner with Impact Managers to develop site-specific plans that support program quality and student outcomes

  • Facilitate training,professional development and conduct regular site visits, observations, and feedback sessions for AmeriCorps Members and staff delivering afterschool programming.

  • Works with manager and MDI to establish and carry out the vision and manages performance for a team of two members by aligning goals, monitoring progress, and fostering an environment of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.

Compliance and Grant Management

  • Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, funding expectations, and organizational policies

  • Monitor enrollment, attendance, participation, and outcome data to meet grant goals

  • Oversee documentation and reporting requirements

  • Oversee adherence to safety protocols and student supervision standards

Data Analysisand Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze program performance data across all sites.

  • Develop recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Prepare reports for organizational leadership and funders

  • Monitor progress toward grant deliverables and performance measures

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner effectively with teammates to achieve shared goals and foster an inclusive environment

  • Role model a growth mindset and commitment to City Year's culture, values, and youth-serving mission

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor to advance City Year's mission.

Technical & Functional Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using data management, reporting, or project management platforms

  • Experience with Salesforce, Power BI, or similar systems is a plus

Physical requirements

  • Be physically present on campus during work hours

  • Move about the classroom, school campus and off-site venues as needed during work hours

  • Lift and carry instructional materials, books, and supplies up to 25 pounds

  • Have sufficient vision to read printed materials, a computer screen, and observe student activities

  • Have sufficient hearing to understand conversations in person or over the phone

  • Speak clearly and be understood by students, parents, and colleagues

  • Open doors or operate a computer and other instructional technology

  • Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including during inclement weather

Working Conditions

  • Operate in school and professional office setting using standard office equipment

  • Frequently travel to school partner sites, company events or training

  • Typical schedule: Monday-Friday, 25 hours per week, with occasional extended hours as needed

  • Moderate noise level typical of a school environment Requires reliable transportation for travel as part of job duties
