Description
The City of Portsmouth Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and energetic Afterschool Program Coordinator to lead the ACE Afterschool Program at the Community Campus. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of elementary-aged children by creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment after school.
Pay rate: $22.00 - $24.00 an hour based on experience.
Hours: Part Time, 30 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday: 1:00pm-6:00pm

NATURE OF WORK
Position is responsible for the overall management and execution of the ACE program including managing staff, developing and executing activities, ensuring participant safety, and overseeing daily operations to provide positive and enriching experience for all participants. Activities may include field trips, arts and crafts, sports, games, drama performances, and hobbies. Site Coordinators and their staff will provide a safe and fun learning environment for elementary-aged children (ages 5-11) while practicing and modeling all City safety protocols.
SUPERVISION
Incumbent works under the general direction of the Recreation Director, Recreation Supervisor, or their designee. Incumbent plans and carries out daily work with a degree of independence and teamwork. Performance is subject to review according to the City''s personnel plan through observation, reports and the results achieved.
Incumbent may be tasked with acting as the leader and decision maker in the absence of the Recreation Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Plan and execute activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, nature walks, field trips, and events.
Maintain and enforce safety rules and regulations in the recreational facilities and other City properties.
Performs first aid following prescribed procedures and contacts emergency medical personnel when required by the situation.
Demonstrates the use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other participants; explains program and facility rules.
Interacts professionally with parents and the public.
Reports participant and parent complaints to leadership and work to resolve issues.
Supervises and supports staff under their charge.
Utilizes registration and program software in a professional manner.
Performs other related duties as required.

ENVIRONMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be able to physically manage and support children when needed for safety in general activities. Position includes limited physical requirements including lifting approximately 20-100 pounds. Able to lead and participate in camp activities including, but not limited to, running, swimming, team building initiatives, and physical games.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED). Previous experience working in camp, youth programming, recreation, working with children, or related fields is preferred. At least one (1) year experience in a supervisory role.
CPR/First Aid certification is required. City-sponsored certification will be provided to the final candidate if not already certified.
