Summary
The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a full time Agriculture Investigator Senior - Dairy Farm / NMP Inspector in the Magic Valley. This position serves the inspection needs of Animal Industries Grade A Dairy Program; specifically, dairy farm inspections in the Magic Valley and Animal Industries Nutrient Management Program; specifically, dairy and feedlot inspection in the Magic Valley.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs inspections of Grade A and Manufacture Grade Dairy Farms and Dairy Bulk Haulers related to sanitation and the process of milking cattle and transporting milk to produce dairy products for human consumption.
- Promotes awareness of and acceptance of best management practices related to consumer protection, animal health, food production and processing and marketing laws, regulations and standards
- Provides training and information to producers and stakeholders
- Responds to inquiries regarding program requirements
- Assists other investigators in monitoring, evaluating, inspecting and investigating agricultural and commercial activities to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and standards
- Receives training to collect evidence in accordance with law, rule, policy, quality assurance, and chain of custody procedures
- Learns to evaluate extent of damage and risk of continued out-of-compliance activities to humans, plants, animals, the economy and the environment
- Explains findings and rational for corrective actions to parties involved
- Participates in enforcement actions, citations, and operating or marketing authorization revocations and suspensions
- Compiles evidence and participates with division staff in preparing cases
- Performs inspections of waste storage structures and reviews management practices related to the storage and application of nutrients on dairy facilities
- Promotes awareness of and acceptance of best management practices related to consumer protection, animal health, food production and processing and marketing laws, regulations and standards
- Provides training and information to the public, growers, dealers, and manufacturers
- Responds to inquiries regarding program requirements
- Assists other investigators in monitoring, evaluating, inspecting and investigating agricultural and commercial activities to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and standards
- Receives training to collect evidence in accordance with law, rule, policy, quality assurance, and chain of custody procedures
- Learns to evaluate extent of damage and risk of continued out-of-compliance activities to humans, plants, animals, the economy and the environment
- Explains findings and rationale for corrective actions to parties involved
- Participates in enforcement actions, citations, and operating or marketing authorization revocations and suspensions
- Compiles evidence and participates with division staff in preparing cases
- A cell phone with an Idaho area code, furnished by the employee, is required for this position and is eligible for reimbursement under the Cell Phone Reimbursement policy
- Preform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualification: This qualification is mandatory for the position.
- Work experience preparing narrative reports, typically gained by 12 months of experience preparing narrative reports such as business reports, investigative reports, research summaries, etc.
Specialty Qualifications: These qualifications are mandatory requirements.
- Good knowledge of livestock (beef, dairy, or equine), dairy farms, milk processing facilities, or sanitation compliance experience relating to animal production or food safety, typically gained through at least one (1) year experience working on a feedlot, ranch, dairy farm, horse farm, milk processing facility, dairy supply company, or environmental compliance relating to animal production; OR a minimum of twenty four (24) credits relating to animal or dairy production, veterinary science, livestock production, agriculture economics, or food processing. Only twelve (12) credits of food processing and/or agriculture economics courses will count towards the twenty four (24) credit requirement.
- A valid driver's license
Desirable Areas: This qualification is not required; however, if you have the related background, it may increase your score.
- Experience in Compliance Inspections: Typically gained by having familiarity in the inspection process, preferably within a government context with experience using a checklist of requirements and/or regulations, systematically reviewing each item to verify that the object, person, or process being inspected meets the specified criteria for each item.
