Description & Details:
The Ag Tech/Mechanic is integral to the daily functions of the Williston Research Extension Center. This position will operate all large farm machinery (air seeder, sprayer and combines) and is responsible for the repair and maintenance of farm and research equipment associated with the WREC. The position has an integral role with the Foundation Seedstocks program that grows and sells seed to farmers of the MonDak region. Other responsibilities also include general building and yard maintenance, snow removal and other duties as requested.
The position frequently works with chemical applications and requires a commercial applicators license to apply pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. The working environment changes seasonally. Generally, April through November are in the field or shop and outside areas. October through April mostly in the shop or building, cleaning foundation seed and snow removal. Exposure to dust during seed cleaning.
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday; 8am to 4:30pm.
Occasional evenings or weekends during planting and harvest time.
Hiring Range: $55,000 - $70,000 + depending upon experience
Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma with 3 years of Agriculture Experience
Valid U.S. drivers license with CDL endorsement or the ability to obtain one.
North Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain one.
Experience with Agriculture related equipment: Tractor, planter, combine, forklift, mower, tiller, chemical application equipment, etc.)
Experience with farm equipment operation, maintenance and repair.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have a farm or farming background and familiarity with ND Field Crops.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Ability to learn other computer programs as needed for the position
Seed Plant Operation and seed cleaning mechanical aptitude.
Core Competencies:
Work with the Foundation Seedstock program, operate all large farm machinery, maintain, troubleshoot and service all large farm equipment, plot equipment and yard equipment. Assist with seed cleaning for the foundation seed program.
Clean, organize and keep inventory of the shop and tools.
Welding and fabrication for repair or needed tools, replace worn parts, change oil/filters, grease and general repair of equipment.
General maintenance and upkeep of the WREC facility. Including but not limited to; mowing grass, trim building edges, weeding, minor building repairs and maintenance of all WREC shops/storage buildings and snow removal.
The ability to research and problem solve, communicate and be a part of a team that wants to see the WREC succeed.
