Intake Navigator

The Intake Navigator provides support to the Intake Group, the Agricultural Worker Practice Group and other practice groups within MLSA as needed. The Intake Navigator also supports the Spanish language intake and attorney-client translation needs of MLSA. This positionprovides assistance to clients with intakes and legal information and coordinates communication between the applicants, clients, intake specialists, and attorneys as needed regarding case status. The Intake Navigator answers incoming HelpLine calls and assists with applications from those who seek legal assistance, in addition to providing support to MLSA attorneys on a wide variety of case types, including agricultural worker cases. A high level of proficiency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide services to MLSA's Spanish speaking clients, and translation and interpretation with clients when appropriate.
  • Complete intakes in Spanish for all MLSA practice groups as needed
  • Interpret in-person and phone advice appointments between clients and attorneys.
  • Translate follow-up emails and texts.
  • Increase accessibility to Montana's Spanish-speaking community members by translating MLSA's resources and pro-se legal documents
  • Scan and upload applications and client documents to MLSA's case management system; maintain calendars in the case management system and schedule advice appointments with MLSA's advocates.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of legal and social service agencies that can help both eligible and ineligible applicants for MLSA's services.
  • Help develop and participate in community outreach and program initiatives throughout Montana.
  • Increase awareness and conduct outreach among Montana service providers of MLSA's Agricultural Worker services.
  • Increase accessibility of MLSA's resources to Montana's Spanish-speaking community members.
  • Provide support to attorneys in ongoing cases.
  • Provide overall support to the Agricultural Worker Staff Attorney, and attorneys from other practice groups.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Intake Manager, or Director of Advocacy.
Qualifications

Required

  • High level of proficiency in oral and written Spanish.
  • Experience working collaboratively and empathetically with diverse groups of colleagues, firm partners, and clients who have varying cultural backgrounds, perspectives, experience, and expertise.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Capacity to learn and adapt.
  • High degree of computer data entry proficiency and accuracy.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment with multiple timelines.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple activities and tasks.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, computer-based research, internet-based project management programs, and video conferencing platforms, etc.
  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience networking with community organizations and conducting outreach campaigns.
  • An understanding of the civil equal justice legal needs of low-income people, including the unique needs of populations that experience particular barriers to access to justice systems, and of effective approaches and methods for addressing those needs.
  • Knowledge of substantive legal areas affecting low-income people.

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid work environment with statewide travel required, including to rural communities.
  • Primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment, requiring regular computer use and the ability to alternate between sitting and standing at a workstation for most of the workday.
  • Occasional travel to represent MLSA at national conferences.
  • Occasional evening or weekend training sessions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
