Purpose and Scope

Mechanic supports an Aircraft Ground Equipment (AGEG) Ground Support Equipment (GSE) shop. Ensures the timely and proper performance of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on AGEGSE equipment and light support vehicles. Inspects tests and operates AGEGSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation. Diagnoses mechanical and electrical circuitry malfunctions. Interprets drawings wiring diagrams schematics and technical data to facilitate repairs and/or modifications to AGEGSE. Identifies appropriate replacement parts in TOs and technical documents and orders those parts. Removes disassembles repairs cleans treats for corrosion assembles and re-installs AGEGSE accessories and components. Stencils and marks AGEGSE as appropriate. Services equipment with fuel oil coolant water hydraulic fluid and air as required. Operates cleans inspects and services AGEGSE tow vehicles. Maintains and documents AGEGSE equipment and tow vehicle forms. Positions equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations. Schedules PMIs as required. Adheres to safety procedures and follows technical orders as applicable.

Position Reports to the Supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities

• Maintains Aviation Support Equipment (AvSE). • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on AGEGSE. • Inspects tests and operates AGEGSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation. • Services equipment with fuel oil water coolant hydraulic fluid refrigerant and compressed air. • Diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses. • Test equipment and technical publications. • Disassembles and assembles malfunctioning AGEGSE accessories and components. • Removes disassembles repairs cleans treats for corrosion assembles and reinstalls AGEGSE components and accessories. • Stencils and marks AGEGSE in accordance with technical publications. • Stores handles labels uses and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state local and federal environmental standards and regulations. • Prepares AGEGSE for storage and mobility deployment and operates cleans inspects and services AGEGSE towing vehicles. • Maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records. • Provides dispatch service for AGEGSE including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations. • Practices good housekeeping tool control Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all times.

Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• High school diploma or equivalent is required. • Minimum of 3 years of AGEGSE maintenance experience required. • Must be able to inspect repair and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment. • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle. • Position may require domestic and international travel. • Position will require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in the shop area.

Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.

Frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, and taste or smell.

Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.

Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions questioning non-standard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
