The William Tuttle Agency is one of the fastest-growing Farmers Insurance agencies in southern Minnesota. We were the first agency in our district to break $100,000 in monthly production, and we recently completed a 1,300-plus client book acquisition. We are not slowing down, and we are building our next generation of agents right now.
The Agent Apprentice role is not a typical entry-level sales job. You will work directly alongside agency ownership, learn how the business actually runs, and follow a structured path that has already produced real Farmers agency owners. If your goal is to eventually run your own agency, this is the seat that gets you there. If you are not sure yet and just want to build real skills, real income, and a real career in insurance, this is still exactly the right place to start. Either way, you will be trained, coached, and given every tool you need to succeed.
We protect individuals, families, and businesses with Auto, Home, Life, and Business insurance. We provide the leads, the training, the mentorship, and the Farmers brand. You bring the work ethic and the hunger to learn.
This is not a desk job where you clock in and collect a check. This is a performance-driven apprenticeship where your growth and your income are a direct reflection of your effort. If that sounds like something you want to be part of, keep reading.
OUR CULTURE
We run a competitive, winning culture where the standard is results, and the environment is one where people genuinely want to see each other succeed. As an apprentice, you will be coached directly and consistently. Nobody here is left to figure it out alone.
We are a growth-obsessed team. Every morning we invest time in personal development, sharpen our mindset, and get locked in before the day starts. We believe that if you are growing as a person, you are growing as a producer, and that matters even more when you are being trained to eventually run your own operation.
We are not a passive, maintenance-based agency. We move fast, coach hard, and invest heavily in the people we believe in. If you are serious about building a career, and possibly an agency, in this business, you are in the right spot.
CAREER GROWTH: YOUR PATH TO AGENCY OWNERSHIP
This is what makes the Agent Apprentice role different from every other entry point in the industry.
Farmers Insurance runs the Protg Agency Producer Program, a structured pathway for producers who want to own their own Farmers agency without the standard startup capital requirement. We have already helped producers graduate through this exact path into owning their own Farmers agencies. We know what it takes, because we have done it before.
As an apprentice, you will work directly under agency ownership, learn the full operation and not just how to close a policy, and hit the production milestones Farmers requires to advance. From there, the path is yours to choose:
Apprentice, then Sales Producer, then Senior Producer, then Agency Leadership, or
Apprentice, then Protg Agency Producer, then your own Farmers agency
Ownership is not required here. It is available. If you show up, do the work, and want it, we will help you get there. If you would rather build your career as a top producer on our team, that path is just as real and just as supported.
COMPENSATION
We pay apprentices like the future producers you are training to become.
Base salary for stability while you learn, get licensed, and ramp up
Commission on every policy you write, with no cap once you are producing
Performance bonuses tied to individual and agency production milestones
Renewal (residual) commissions that begin compounding as your book grows
Apprentices who follow our process and stay consistent can expect to earn between $40,000 and $80,000 or more in year one, with income growing as your book of business compounds. There is no ceiling on what you can earn here.
BENEFITS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need insurance experience or a license to apply?
No. This role is built for people who are new to insurance as well as people who already have experience. If you are not licensed, we cover 100% of the cost to get you licensed and train you on everything you need to know. If you already have experience or a license, you will move through the apprenticeship faster.
Do I have to want to own my own agency to apply?
No. Ownership is available, not required. Some of our apprentices will go on to the Farmers Protg Program and open their own agency. Others will build their career here as a top-performing producer or move into agency leadership. Both paths are real, and we support either one.
What exactly is an apprentice, and how is this different from your other roles?
An apprentice works directly alongside agency ownership, not just a sales manager. You are learning the sales process, but you are also learning how the agency itself operates, because the goal is to prepare you for more than a producer seat if that is the path you want.
What is the Protg Agency Producer Program?
It is a program run by Farmers Insurance for producers who want to own their own agency without the standard startup capital requirement. You work at our agency, learn the business, and hit the production milestones Farmers requires. We have helped producers graduate through this program before, and we know how to get someone there.
How does compensation work?
You earn a base salary plus commission on every policy you write plus performance bonuses, and renewal commissions begin compounding as your book grows. Apprentices who follow our process and stay consistent typically earn between $40,000 and $80,000 or more in year one. There is no ceiling on what you can earn.
Will I have to buy my own leads or cold call friends and family?
No. We provide the leads: inbound calls, digital leads, and cross-sell opportunities from our existing book, including our recent 1,300-plus client acquisition. You will never be asked to pressure your personal network.
Is this an in-office role?
Yes, to start. Apprenticeship works best in person, where coaching, mentorship, and real-time feedback actually happen. Once you are consistently hitting production standards, hybrid flexibility is on the table.
What does a typical day look like?
Your day starts with a team huddle covering goals and personal development. From there, you are working leads, having needs-based conversations, quoting and closing policies, and getting real-time coaching. You will also spend time learning the operational side of the agency as you progress through the apprenticeship. The pace is fast, and every day you are building both your skill set and your book.
If you are ready to learn the business, build real skills, and see how far this path can take you, whether that is Senior Producer or your own Farmers agency, apply today.
