Responsible for maintaining and enforcing grain quality standards across Agri-Business operations to ensure compliance with customer requirements, company expectations, and applicable quality specifications. This role provides oversight of grain quality processes across multiple locations, including receiving, storage, handling, and customer sales, and is accountable for ensuring quality standards are consistently applied and maintained. Through collaboration with facility leadership and operations teams, the position has the authority to identify non-conforming product, require corrective action, and prevent shipment of grain that does not meet established quality standards. The role partners with Operations, customers, and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in grain quality performance and protect the integrity of grain products delivered to customers.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining and enforcing grain quality standards across Agri-Business operations to ensure compliance with customer requirements, company expectations, and applicable quality specifications. Conduct quality audits, inspections, and compliance reviews to ensure quality standards are consistently applied across multiple grain locations. Identify non-conforming product, require corrective actions, and exercise authority to hold, reject, or require rework of grain that does not meet established quality specifications or customer requirements.
Maintain grain quality standards, documentation, records, and compliance requirements to ensure expectations are consistently communicated and applied across all locations. Monitor, analyze, and distribute quality-related reports, including grain rejections, testing results, compliance metrics, and quality trends. Identify deficiencies, communicate findings to facility leadership, and support corrective actions to protect product quality and customer requirements.
Maintain current knowledge of grain quality standards, testing methodologies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices through participation in professional development programs, including Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) and USDA Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) training. Recommend and support training opportunities that promote consistent application of quality standards across grain operations.
Maintain relationships with industry organizations, vendors, customers, and external partners, including Envirologix and the GEAPS Atlantic Coast Chapter, to stay informed of emerging quality standards, testing technologies, regulatory developments, and industry best practices affecting grain operations. Partner with external stakeholders to support compliance with customer quality requirements and industry standards.
Support safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality compliance initiatives through documentation, record management, reporting, and audit support activities. Participate in special projects and cross-functional efforts to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, customer requirements, and company quality standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agri-Business, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field.
2+ years' experience in grain quality, quality assurance, grain operations, agriculture, or a related field.
Laboratory experience related to grain testing and quality analysis.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to enter and work within grain handling, processing, and production facilities.
Understanding of grain handling and grain operations.
Ability to interpret quality standards, identify non-conforming product, and effectively communicate corrective actions to facility leadership.
Training or professional development through industry organizations such as GEAPS and/or FGIS preferred.
Requires 50-60% travel to grain elevator locations throughout Maryland and Delaware to support quality audits, training, inspections, and compliance with established grain quality standards.
