About the Role
The Agricultural and Grounds Assistant supports the maintenance and development of instructional agricultural plots, campus landscapes, and hands-on learning environments. This role combines outdoor agricultural work, workshop support, and program assistance to enhance experiential learning opportunities and sustainability initiatives. The position works closely with faculty and students to maintain functional, safe, and engaging instructional spaces.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and moving materials up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks efficiently
- Dependability and demonstrated strong work ethic
- Valid driver's license or reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, or groundskeeping
- Experience working in a workshop or maker space environment
- Familiarity with basic tools, equipment maintenance, or small construction projects
- Experience supporting educational programs, student activities, or sustainability initiatives
Responsibilities:
Agricultural Plot Maintenance
- Plant, cultivate, and maintain instructional agricultural plots
- Weed, mulch, water, and monitor crop health
- Assist with planting, harvesting, and seasonal crop rotations
- Maintain pathways, borders, and demonstration areas
- Monitor irrigation systems and report maintenance needs
Maker's Space and Workshop Support
- Assist with organization and maintenance of the Maker's Space
- Support small construction, fabrication, and campus improvement projects
- Maintain tools and ensure workshop organization and safety
- Prepare materials and workspaces for instructional use
Program Support
- Assist faculty with instructional demonstrations and special projects
- Support student activities and experiential learning opportunities
- Help coordinate sustainability events and campus outreach efforts
- Prepare instructional areas for classes, workshops, and events
