A mission-driven technology organization is seeking an AI Data Ingestion Engineer to help onboard government financial datasets into a modern data platform using AI-assisted development tools. This role offers the opportunity to work with Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and Claude Code to rapidly build high-quality data ingestion pipelines that support public sector transparency and analytics. The ideal candidate enjoys solving data engineering challenges, writing clean and maintainable code, and working independently within an established technical framework while delivering high-quality, reviewable solutions.

Job Description:
We are looking for an AI Data Ingestion Engineer to develop Python-based ingestion pipelines that import government financial datasets, including Excel, CSV, and other tabular data sources, into a PostgreSQL-backed data platform. This individual will leverage Claude Code and pre-defined Skills templates as part of the standard development workflow to rapidly build, validate, and refine ingestion scripts across a variety of government data sources, including state education budgets, municipal financials, and county budget data. The ideal candidate has strong Python development experience, is comfortable working with structured data and relational databases, and takes pride in writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. This is a project-based engagement with clearly defined deliverables, an established technical foundation, and senior engineering oversight.

Required Skills:

• Strong Python development experience
• Experience working with Claude Code or AI-assisted software development tools
• Experience building applications and APIs using FastAPI
• Strong PostgreSQL experience
• Experience ingesting and transforming XLSX, CSV, and other structured data formats into relational databases
• Experience building or supporting ETL and data ingestion pipelines
• Experience writing and executing data quality validation and testing
• Ability to work independently on well-defined technical projects
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with senior engineers and reviewers

Bonus / Soft Skills:

• Experience working with government financial or public sector datasets
• Experience developing testing frameworks or quality assurance processes for ETL workflows
• Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows and prompt-driven development
• Fast learner who can quickly adapt to new tools and established engineering patterns
• Writes clean, readable, and maintainable code with a strong attention to detail
• Self-motivated with a bias toward delivering high-quality, reviewable solutions
