AI Engineer

Salary: $75.00 - $79.00 /hr.
 
Summary:
This engineering position requires an individual who can write production-quality code, has a deep understanding of systems, and can effectively leverage AI coding tools. The role involves using Claude Code and similar tools like OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, and Cursor to enhance development workflows. The engineer will be responsible for designing, building, testing, and shipping software while integrating AI tools into the engineering process for tasks such as scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, code review, debugging, and documentation.
 
Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain production software across the stack (backend, frontend, infrastructure, or team's focus area).
• Use Claude Code as the primary AI coding agent for development tasks, ensuring full ownership and accountability for code quality, correctness, and security.
• Break down complex features into well-scoped tasks for AI coding agents and rigorously review, test, and integrate the output.
• Build and maintain internal tooling, custom Claude Code configurations, prompts, and "agent playbooks" for AI-assisted development.
• Participate in code reviews for both human-written and AI-generated code to identify bugs, security issues, and architectural drift.
• Write and maintain automated tests, using AI tools to enhance test coverage.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate requirements into well-architected solutions.
• Continuously evaluate new AI coding tools/models and help define best practices and workflows for their use.
• Debug and resolve production issues, utilizing AI tools for root-cause analysis where appropriate.
• Contribute to technical design documents, architecture decisions, and estimations informed by AI tools' capabilities.

 
Qualifications

• 1 year of professional experience in AI with 5 years in software engineering, with strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Hands-on, real-world experience using Claude Code in development workflows.
• Experience with other AI coding assistants/agents (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, etc.).
• Proficiency in Java and backend frameworks such as Spring/Spring Boot, with familiarity in at least one other modern language (e.g., Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go).
• Solid understanding of backend fundamentals: REST/gRPC API design, relational and/or NoSQL databases, messaging/queues, and microservices architecture.
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices: version control (Git), CI/CD, testing methodologies, and code review processes.

Pay Transparency:  The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $75.00 - $79.00 /hour. As a non-exempt position, this role will be eligible for overtime, at 1.5 times the base rate, or as required by state or local law.  Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience.  Full-time employees are eligible for benefits including medical, dental, and vision benefits, health savings account option for qualified medical plan enrollments, accrual of up to 10 paid days off, 3 days paid bereavement leave, 401(k) plan participation with employer match, life and disability insurance, commuter benefits, dependent care flexible spending account, accident insurance, critical illness insurance, hospital indemnity insurance, travel reimbursement, accommodations for work travel, and discretionary performance or recognition bonus.
