Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
AI Engineer to support innovative technology and digital transformation initiatives within a
U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) environment.
The AI Engineer will design, develop, integrate, evaluate, and operationalize AI-enabled capabilities supporting complex enterprise and mission needs. The role will work closely with enterprise architects, data engineers, software engineers, product teams, cybersecurity professionals, and business stakeholders to evaluate emerging technologies and deliver secure, scalable, and production-ready solutions.
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of
AI/ML engineering, data engineering, software development, cloud, and modern DevSecOps experience, with the ability to take AI concepts from experimentation and prototyping through production implementation.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and deploy AI/ML and data-driven solutions supporting enterprise and mission requirements.
- Design and build data integration solutions, pipelines, and services that support AI, analytics, and digital products.
- Develop and integrate AI-enabled applications, APIs, models, and services into enterprise technology environments.
- Prototype, evaluate, and assess emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, against real-world business and mission use cases.
- Collaborate with enterprise, solution, and data architects to develop scalable, secure, interoperable, and maintainable technical solutions.
- Work with data engineering teams to prepare, transform, integrate, and manage data required for AI and analytics capabilities.
- Develop analytics, dashboards, and performance measures that support data-driven decision-making.
- Evaluate AI/ML solution performance, reliability, scalability, usability, and operational effectiveness.
- Apply modern software engineering, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud-native practices to AI-enabled solutions.
- Support deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement of AI/ML capabilities.
- Identify and address data quality, integration, model performance, security, and technical debt challenges.
- Collaborate with cross-functional product teams using Agile and iterative delivery practices.
- Develop technical documentation, architecture artifacts, training materials, and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Ensure solutions address applicable security, privacy, accessibility, compliance, and operational requirements.
- Stay current with emerging AI/ML technologies, engineering practices, and industry developments.
Required Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, data engineering, software engineering, data science, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience developing, integrating, evaluating, or deploying AI/ML capabilities in an enterprise or production environment.
- Hands-on programming experience with Python or another modern programming language.
- Experience working with structured and unstructured data and data-processing pipelines.
- Experience developing and integrating APIs, microservices, or cloud-based services.
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with modern software engineering practices, including version control, automated testing, CI/CD, and DevOps/DevSecOps.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, data architecture, and enterprise technology environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government or DOJ technology initiatives.
- Experience deploying AI/ML solutions to real users and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, embeddings, vector databases, or prompt engineering.
- Experience with MLOps, including model deployment, monitoring, versioning, and retraining.
- Experience with containerized workloads and technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with cloud-based AI/ML and data services.
- Experience building data analytics, dashboards, or performance measurement capabilities.
- Experience with enterprise data integration, APIs, and data pipelines.
- Experience addressing AI security, privacy, governance, responsible AI, and compliance considerations.
- Experience working within Agile, product-oriented, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Experience developing training materials and knowledge-transfer artifacts.
- Relevant cloud, AI/ML, data, or engineering certifications.
Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
