*Remote for US based candidates onlyWe are looking for an experienced AI Platform Engineer Consultant to design, build, and harden the core infrastructure that allows AI agents to operate safely in enterprise environments.
This role is ideal for a platform, backend, infrastructure, or AI systems engineer who can build both the control layer and the agent-facing systems it governs. The work centers on access control, auditability, orchestration, connector frameworks, policy enforcement, observability, identity, and deployment automation.
The right person will be comfortable working on greenfield builds, regulated or compliance-sensitive environments, and enterprise-grade platforms where safety, traceability, reliability, and governance are essential.
What You'll Do
- Build core platform infrastructure that supports governed AI agent operations at enterprise scale
- Develop control-plane capabilities that separate proposed actions, approved decisions, and executed actions
- Implement policy enforcement, access control, and business-rule guardrails beyond native system permissions
- Build governance workflows for configuration changes, approvals, versioning, rollback, and change tracking
- Create audit logging capabilities that support compliance, traceability, and evidence requirements
- Develop connector frameworks that manage staging, retries, failure handling, circuit breakers, and safe writeback to systems of record
- Implement identity and workload-identity capabilities for agent registration, authentication, and authorization
- Build observability instrumentation using tracing, spans, logs, and metrics to support end-to-end action visibility
- Support durable workflow orchestration for governed actions, approvals, and multi-step execution paths
- Create synthetic data environments, test scenarios, and regression harnesses to validate platform behavior outside production
- Build and maintain validation tools or reference agents used to test onboarding, integrations, and governance controls
- Partner with solution architecture and integration teams to keep platform contracts stable and backward-compatible
- Support infrastructure provisioning, containerization, deployment automation, and CI/CD for platform services
- Integrate with enterprise middleware, message queues, APIs, and legacy systems of record
- Troubleshoot platform, connector, identity, observability, workflow, and deployment issues as needed
What We're Looking For
- 5 or more years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, backend engineering, or related technical roles
- Experience supporting production AI, ML, automation, or agent-based systems
- Hands-on experience building policy systems, access-control layers, audit logging, workflow engines, or orchestration platforms
- Experience with identity or workload identity systems such as SPIFFE/SPIRE, OAuth/OIDC, Entra ID, or similar technologies
- Familiarity with durable workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal or similar frameworks
- Experience integrating enterprise middleware, message queues, APIs, ESBs, or legacy systems of record
- Strong understanding of observability tools, distributed tracing, OpenTelemetry, logs, metrics, and system monitoring
- Experience with infrastructure as code, deployment automation, CI/CD, and containerized services
- Experience with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or another major cloud provider
- Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration platforms
- Ability to work from design specifications in greenfield or limited-code environments
- Strong engineering judgment, documentation skills, and ability to build secure, reliable, auditable systems
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Background
- Experience building AI governance, control tower, approval routing, risk scoring, or agent onboarding platforms
- Experience with policy engines such as OPA, Cedar-style policy models, or similar access-control frameworks
- Experience with immutable, tamper-evident, or hash-chained audit logging
- Familiarity with compliance-driven technology environments such as SOX ITGC, NERC-CIP, HIPAA, or similar frameworks
- Experience building reference agents, validation harnesses, synthetic test environments, or regression testing frameworks
- Background supporting critical infrastructure, financial services, healthcare, public sector, utilities, or other highly regulated environments
- Experience designing platform contracts that can support multiple agents, connectors, and downstream systems
