POSITION SUMMARY
Assist the staff in providing instruction to intervene in the area of Deafblindness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide opportunities, information, and instruction to an individual student (specifically a student with CHARGE syndrome).
Produce materials to deliver to the students under the special education teacher.
Design spaces within the school that will meet the needs of a student who is deafblind that facilitate student access to environmental information usually
gained through vision and hearing.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicate with teaching staff, parents and students about program and student progress and behavior.
Perform clerical tasks such as typing, filing, maintaining records, photocopying etc.
Demonstrate, monitor and encourage positive student behaviors, discipline as necessary and enforce school policies and procedures.
Attend meetings regarding student progress or program implementation (Team meetings and IEP meetings).
Perform other duties as assigned which are fairly within the scope of duties normally performed by school aides.
Provide professional development for special and regular education staff in best practice techniques to work with students who are deafblind.
Facilitate the development and/or use of student's receptive and expressive communication skills (including use of assistive technology).
Assist in helping student in self-care activities such as feeding using a G-Tube and toileting needs
