JOB GOAL:

To aid and support academic success of students via parent communication and community support services.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month (184 days) contract, Table 803 Grade , plus benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon experience. FLSA: Non-Exempt.

NOTE:

This position is contingent upon continue funding.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of 60 semester credit hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education or Associate Degree or have passed the ParaPro Praxis Exam (457 or above).
  • Must be bilingual (Spanish) (must demonstrate written and oral proficiency at interview).
  • Sensitivity to language and cultural differences.
  • Excellent communication and social skills. Communicate with proper English usage orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of working with children and adults.
  • Commitment to the importance of confidentiality of records.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   • Assists in translating in Spanish/English information to parents.
  • Assists parents of ELL students in acquiring and understanding District/school policies, practices and procedures.
  • Interacts positively with children.
  • Assists in the preparation of lesson and instructional materials.
  • Learns the curriculum content of the class(es).
  • Assists individual children in need of special attention.
  • Implements behavior management techniques.
  • Reinforces research-based instructional activities with students as directed.
  • Under supervision of licensed teacher, prepares classroom activities and assists in other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
