Position Description
ENTRY SALARY: $56,345.31
Under general supervision, the Air Conditioning Technician performs general servicing, installation, maintenance, and care for the ventilation and refrigeration systems within the Citys municipal buildings and facilities.
Employees selected for this position must meet FDLE guidelines in order to access sensitive and/or confidential information. Applicants with arrest histories for felonies or serious misdemeanors may be denied access to this information and as such, will not meet the minimum qualifications for a position with the City of Clearwater.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs all air conditioning and ventilation systems, equipment, components, and fixtures within the City municipal buildings, and facilities; ensures functionality and operation.
Responds to HVAC and refrigeration system outages and issues; provides mechanical and technical expertise to identify issues, address problems, and resolve issues with appropriate skill; performs work on building automated systems, fire alarms, intrusion systems, and other service requests.
Oversees, engages, and works with contractors performing maintenance, installation, repair and service of mechanical systems; communicates and collaborates effectively to address problems and repair challenging issues.
Reviews and evaluates specifications and plan documentations for construction projects; provides expertise on refrigeration placement, specifications, and drawings; assists in determining HVAC and refrigeration installation and service.
Reads and interprets blueprints and designs; determines necessary work to be done and establishes a timeline for completion; prioritizes emergent HVAC issues and ensures all work is completed or assigned.
Services and repairs ice machines and refrigerated coolers, boilers, water heaters, pumps and other refrigeration equipment.
Keeps, maintains, and drafts records and files on work in process and work completed; provides detailed information on plumbing work and tasks still in process.
Orders and acquires parts, provides general training, and operates and services City vehicles and equipment used in performing job tasks.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State drivers license is required.
EPA Universal Certification Card for handling refrigerants is required.
This position is required to operate the below equipment, machines, tools, and other work aides:
HVAC maintenance hand tools, brazing torch, reference gauges, temperature gauges, portable drill, vacuum pump, forklift, platform truck, and other equipment as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate AND completion of one (1) year of vocational training in air conditioning installation or repair work PLUS two (2) years of experience in air conditioning installation or repair work; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
