Summary: 

  • Fabricates, assembles, forms, finishes, and inspects structural and non-structural fiberglass, acrylic, composite, and metal parts, tools, and assemblies.

  • Utilizes lay-up tools including optical and hard tools in the fabrication of composite and metal assemblies.

  • Obtains required information from prints, charts, sketches, work orders, documents, and verbal or electronic information.

  • Uses shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments to complete work assignments and verify conformance.

  • Verifies work performed per work instruction and ensures it meets process and engineering specifications.

  • Ensures equipment and tool certification occurs per established procedures.

  • Uses and controls solvents and cleaning solutions in preparation of details, tools, and assemblies for bonding and paint per established procedures.

  • Performs routine minor machine maintenance including replacing filters, bulbs, and maintaining lubrication and coolant levels.

  • Places vacuum and pressure bags over and inside wrapped parts and tools, and tests for leaks.

  • Performs hand and machine finishing including drilling, sawing, filing, sanding, potting, patching, trimming, fitting, and riveting, and applies parting agents, bonding adhesives, and spray or brush priming.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).

  • 5-10 years of experience in composite and metal fabrication, assembly, and finishing (3-4 years considered with strong work ethic).

  • Ability to work from engineering drawings, process specifications, and quality control requirements.

  • Proficiency in using lay-up tools (optical and hard tools) for composite and metal assemblies.

  • Ability to use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments for work assignments.

  • Experience with bonding, sealing, and paint preparation, including use of solvents and cleaning solutions.

  • Experience with vacuum and pressure bagging and leak testing for composite parts.

  • Experience with hand and machine finishing including drilling, sawing, filing, sanding, potting, patching, trimming, fitting, and riveting.

  • Experience with oven curing of parts and assemblies, and application of parting agents and bonding adhesives using films, spray, pour coating, roller coating, and robotics equipment.

  • Experience with spray and brush priming for coating applications.
