SUMMARY

The Aircraft Maintenance Controller is responsible for maintaining continuous surveillance over the airworthiness of the Gridiron Air fleet. This role acts as the primary interface between Technical Operations and Operations Control Center (OCC), providing control and direction for all aircraft maintenance concerns while ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards under Part 121 operations. The Aircraft Maintenance Controller reports to the Director of Maintenance.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Fleet Oversight: Monitor the real-time operational status of the Gridiron Air fleet and take proactive measures to address mechanical issues, delays, or aircraft-on-ground (AOG) situations.
  • Coordination: Communicate effectively with Flight Crews, Operations Control Center (OCC), TechOps Leadership, line maintenance personnel, and third-party maintenance providers to ensure timely resolution of maintenance issues.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to maintenance personnel for resolving complex aircraft discrepancies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with FAA regulations, including Part 121 requirements, airworthiness directives (ADs), and Gridiron Air policies.
  • MIS Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance actions, deferrals, MEL/CDL/NEF and DMI entries, and other required documentation.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance updates and relay critical information to flight crews, Operations, and Gridiron Air leadership.
  • Collaboration: Partner with TechOps Leadership, quality assurance, and planning teams to address recurring maintenance issues and improve fleet reliability.
  • Assist with Line Maintenance when needed.
  • All employees are expected to be well-versed in the Gridiron Air Safety Management System (SMS). They should be proficient in carrying out duties in line with their training and participation in the SMS. Moreover, they are encouraged and supported to identify and report safety hazards, detect safety shortcomings, and voice safety concerns within the operation, thus promoting a proactive safety culture.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned based on business needs and shifting company priorities.  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, with a focus on Part 121 operations preferred.
  • Extensive understanding of Aircraft Technical manuals (AMM, FIM, SRM, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, MEL/CDL/NEF and DMI procedures, and aircraft maintenance practices.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience with modern maintenance information systems (e.g., CAMP, TRAX).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S per the Immigration Act of 1986.
  • Must pass 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen per airline and/or company regulations.

PERFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with one or more company aircraft fleet types (e.g., B777 or equivalent wide-body aircraft.) specific to Gridiron Air operations.
  • Previous experience in Maintenance Operations Control (MOC) or similar role.
  • Familiarity with SMS (Safety Management Systems) and reliability programs.
  • Strong avionics and schematic troubleshooting ability.

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS

As a condition of employment, all applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. If the position is regulated under U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) or Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, the employee will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing, post-accident testing, and follow-up testing in accordance with applicable DOT/FAA regulations (e.g., 14 C.F.R. Part 120 / 49 C.F.R. Part 40). In addition, for roles requiring unescorted access to secure airport or aircraft-related areas or other “covered functions,” a fingerprint-based criminal history record check (CHRC) will be conducted in accordance with 49 C.F.R. §§ 1542 / 1544. Applicants must not have any disqualifying criminal offenses (as defined under FAA regulations) within the 10-year look-back period.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work in an office setting. Occasionally, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions which may include wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat and cold. When working outside the office, the noise level in the work environment is often loud. Occasional travel may be required (<10%).
