This vacancy announcement is for a Dual-Status Technician position which requires active membership in the New Jersey National Guard (uniformed military service). Official appointment is not effective until membership within the New Jersey National Guard is confirmed by the gaining Human Resources Office.

Duties

As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-12, you will:

  • Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and support exercises.
  • Manage, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft. port exercises
  • Ensure Aircraft Notebook (ACN) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft.
  • Launch, recovers, parks, and services aircraft.
  • Diagnose and solve malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex, state of the art computerized and/or non-computerized Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
  • Plan, develop, and conduct proficiency training during the technician work week to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel.
  • Work with, coordinate and oversee the work of lower graded aircraft mechanics and certifies the work of journey level workers in other trades working on the assigned aircraft.
  • Serve as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft.
  • Work closely with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing states National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Qualifications

General Experience:

Must have general experience or training that has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications.

Specialized Experience:

Must have at least 24 months experience or training in the following:

  • Installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing various major and minor mechanical and pnuedraulic systems on an aircraft
  • Coordinating the work of other mechanics
  • Scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow
  • Ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military, and other personnel
  • Knowledge of disassembly and re-assembly of the following:
  • Crashed dummy engines
  • Transmissions
  • Gearboxes
  • Hydraulic components
  • Fuel controls

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world.
