PGS Worldwide is seeking a Structures Mechanic in St. Augustine, FL for a one year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This role assembles and modifies major aircraft structures and structural subassemblies (including fuselage panels, bulkheads, rudders, flaps, and stabilizers) using jigs, templates, and fixtures. You will perform structural fitting and sheet metal operations, interpret engineering documentation, verify dimensions with precision measuring tools, and support quality and safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.
Required Skills
Sheet metal experience
Ability to understand and interpret blueprints
Ability to comprehend engineering requirements and apply them in structural assembly/repair work
Ability to assemble, install, and modify structural parts (ribs, spars, skins, bulkheads, fuselages) using drilling, riveting, and alignment tools
Ability to align parts on jigs using templates and fixtures
Ability to perform fitting and fabrication tasks such as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming
Ability to use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers) to verify dimensions
Ability to work with materials including aluminum and composites
Ability to independently perform complex structural repairs and modifications (as stated)
Ability to work in confined, elevated, or awkward spaces and handle hazardous materials
Ability to maintain quality standards and comply with safety procedures including PPE and shop controls
Ability to mentor lower-level technicians (as stated)
Ability to work any shift as needed
Preferred Skills
Extensive experience with composites, structural repair, and precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers)
Ability to work as a lead technician guiding lower-level employees and working independently
Ability to perform strenuous work including lifting 25–50 lbs, working in confined spaces, and working at heights
What You’ll Do
Assemble and build major aircraft structures and structural subassemblies using jigs, templates, and fixtures
Perform structural fitting operations including drilling, reaming, riveting, trimming, and deburring
Read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and technical orders to fabricate and modify assemblies
Verify part dimensions and fit using calipers and micrometers
Modify incomplete or complete assemblies to incorporate design/structure changes as required
Maintain compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, and manufacturing shop controls
Provide guidance to lower-level technicians and support troubleshooting of complex issues as needed
Support quality verification activities in accordance with applicable control procedures
Work Schedule / Shift
1st shift: 6:00 AM–4:30 PM
2nd shift: 4:30 PM–3:00 AM
Ability to work any shift as needed
