Minimum Qualifications

Eighth grade. Two years of experience operating medium and/or heavy duty automotive or medium and/or heavy duty construction equipment such as crawler-type excavating machines, lowboys, or similar equipment are required. Must possess a CDL/Class A with air-brakes testing. Must be able to work a permanent or rotating shift schedule to include nights, weekends and holidays. Applicants qualifying for employment with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department will be subject to extensive security screening, including but not limited to fingerprint checks, employment verification and such other procedures as may be mandated by federal law. The security clearance required by the federal law is a continuing condition of employment.

The Airport Auto Equipment Operator 3 will possess extensive experience operating a variety of heavy construction and maintenance equipment, including combination/backhoes, skid steer loaders (Bobcats), forklifts, front-end loaders, excavators, dump trucks with trailers, and lowboy tractor-trailers. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation, transportation, and maintenance of this equipment in support of airport operations.

Incumbents must have a thorough understanding of standard operating procedures (SOPs), traffic regulations, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) requirements. The incumbent will be an effective communicator who works collaboratively with supervisors and team members, conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and promptly reports equipment deficiencies, damage, or mechanical issues to ensure operational readiness and safety.

Additionally, the position requires advanced knowledge of hydraulically operated equipment, including the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and respond to equipment malfunctions in the field while maintaining safe operating practices and will consistently demonstrate sound judgment, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to supporting departmental operations.
