Job Description:

To ensure the safety and security of the airport by conducting screening operations and enforcing compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the airport security program. This position involves the setup, operation, and maintenance of aviation worker screening equipment, detecting and preventing prohibited items from entering secured areas, and conducting routine security functions associated with an airport security environment such as responding to security events. With a focus on promoting a positive safety culture, the role requires adaptability to a dynamic work environment, technical proficiency, effective communication, and the ability to perform essential functions during emergencies or special events. It emphasizes strong decision-making, customer service, and collaboration while safeguarding the airport's secure operations.

Essential Functions

Promotes in a positive way the safety and security culture of the airport. Assist with maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local government rules and regulations, including the airport security program.

Responsible for setting up and taking down aviation worker screening equipment throughout various

locations of the airport and at various hours in compliance with the airport security program.

Ensure the screening equipment is working properly before each screening session and reports issues to Airport Safety and Security Manager or their designee immediately.

Screen people and/or property to detect and prevent the introduction of dangerous and prohibited items such as weapons, explosives, and/or their components to secured areas of the airport in accordance with established standards and procedures.

Maintains screening logs per screening session.

May respond to security alarms, conduct general security inspections, monitor access control system features, and clear security events for a return to normal operations.

Performs related duties as necessary and directed.

This position is considered Essential Personnel and is subject to recall for airport emergencies, special events, or as directed by the Airport Director and/or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A. Previous work experience and high school graduate or equivalency required.

B. Previous work experience within a safety and security critical position is desired.

  1. Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

Ability to operate highly technical equipment and machinery. Physical ability to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, and manipulate body to perform all aspects of the essential functions of the job. Ability to learn new concepts, adapt to a dynamic and constantly changing work environment. Ability to understand the basic concepts and operational capabilities of access control systems and their elements.

Skills related to good customer service, discernment, and discrete decision making. Ability to exhibit logical thinking, initiative, and sound decision-making ability in dealing with compliance and enforcement issues. Must be able to operate modern office equipment such as computers, tablets, smartphones, and the software incumbent with such equipment. Communicate effectively through primarily verbal means, but also through written communication methods associated with inspection forms, procedures, and similar documents that are required to be completed. Establish and maintain working relationship with employees, general public and airport tenants.

Functional knowledge of the basics of security practices and the modern work environment.

  1. Special Qualifications:

Must possess valid State of Idaho driver's license. Ability to pass a criminal history records check, and security threat assessment required by the Transportation Security Administration.

Must be capable of earning the designation of a TSA Trusted Agent due to access to personal information. Position works a variable schedule from week to week and is subject to 24/7 recall due to emergency situations.

Work Environment:

Tasks require a variety of physical activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminate thinking and creative problem solving. Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard and uncertainty common to Airport operations. Work environment is primarily indoors in a security screening setting, while some periods of office work and outdoor work in all weather conditions may exist.
